Kids Fancy Dress Size Guide - Design My Dress Bharat

Choosing the right size is the most important step when buying a kids fancy dress costume online. A well-fitting costume looks great on stage and keeps your child comfortable throughout the event. Use this guide to pick the perfect size for your child.

How to Measure Your Child

  1. Height — Stand child straight against a wall, measure from floor to top of head in cm
  2. Chest — Measure around the widest part of the chest, keeping tape flat
  3. Waist — Measure around the natural waist (narrowest part of torso)
  4. Length / Height — For lehengas and dhoti-kurtas, measure from shoulder to knee or ankle

Sizing Tips by Costume Type

Krishna Dhoti / Bal Gopal Poshak

  • The dhoti has an elastic waistband — choose by age primarily
  • Patka (sash) ties on top so length is adjustable
  • Accessories (mukut, bansuri) are one-size-fits-most
  • Tip: If between sizes, always size up for comfort on stage

Lehenga Choli (Radha, Gujarati, Rajasthani)

  • Measure waist carefully — lehengas are waist-tied
  • Length is important — ensure skirt reaches the knee/mid-calf for best look
  • Choli (blouse) should fit the chest comfortably without pulling
  • Tip: Kids grow fast — if between sizes, pick larger for girls' lehengas

Uniform Costumes (Army, Navy, Air Force)

  • Uniforms are structured — measure chest AND height both
  • Shirt should not be too loose (looks untidy on stage)
  • Cap size adjusts with velcro/elastic inside
  • Tip: Order 1-2 weeks before the event to allow time for exchange if needed

Frequently Asked Size Questions

Q: What size Krishna costume for a 6-month baby?
Order size XS-3 (6-12 Months) for comfortable fit.

Q: My child is 4 years old but small for her age — what size?
Measure the waist/chest and match to size chart rather than age. If measurements match 3-4Y, order M-1.

Q: Are costume sizes standard?
DMDB sizes are Indian standard. Our sizes tend to run slightly generous — if your child is between two sizes, pick the smaller one for uniform costumes and the larger one for lehengas/dhotis.

Q: Can I get a custom size?
Yes for bulk/school orders (minimum 5 pieces). Email dmdbindia@gmail.com with requirements.
